Website development consists of two main areas: front-end development and back-end development.

Front-end website developers use a mix of skills in order to convert a web design into a website, these include HTML, XHTML CSS and JavaScript. Back-end website developers couldn't tell the difference between Prada and Peacocks and would beat you hands-down on Warcraft. Back-end website developers use PHP 5, MySQL, XML, AJAX and JavaScript to make the designs done by the front-end website designers, come alive as eCommerce Solutions and Content Management Systems.

Front-end Website Development

When the web design has been agreed by our customers, we convert these design into a series of templates using XHTML, HTML and CSS. At Electric Studio, we always handcode and make sure that the templates use semantic markup that breaks gracefully and is optmised for the best possible presentation to Google and other search engines. When we develop our templates, years of experience make sure that:

• All code is minimised and optmised for fast loading
• The HTML is based on layers and CSS and always presents the most important information, usually the H1, before anything else
• All the repetitive content, such as navigation and copyright messages are presented last in order to make sure that all content looks unique to Google
• The code is scalable making sure that the website can be changed to fit any requirements and size of browser
• All HTML and CSS is fully W3C valid and compatible with all major browsers
• The website is easy to maintain using simple HTML
• Amongst many things, we use alt tags on images and all forms use label associations to make the website conform with WAI Accessibility standards Priority 2

Back-end Website Development

Once our front-end developer has done his bit, and all has been checked for W3C compatibility, the project is handed over to a Back-end developer. Using object-orientated PHP, MySQL, JavaScript and XML in a modular fashion, these self confessed, Jolt Cola drinking "Geek's", make the website work securely and respond quickly. Electric Studio use both "off-the-shelf" solutions and develop bespoke systems, and we do this with the best interest of our clients in mind.
